Notable Projects
Integrated Energy and Decarbonisation Strategy – Food & Beverage Sector:
Led a multi-phase strategy for a leading UK food & beverage manufacturer, delivering decarbonisation roadmaps across multiple production sites. The project included site scoping, utilities mapping, and the design and implementation of metering, monitoring and targeting (MM&T) systems. ESOS-compliant audits were completed at each site, identifying and costing energy-saving measures. Aaron modelled site-specific demand profiles and assessed opportunities for heat recovery, electrification of thermal processes, and solar PV integration. The strategy was supported by NPV and payback analysis, and phased across short-, medium-, and long-term actions. He engaged closely with enterprise teams, site engineers, landlords, and utilities to ensure technical and commercial alignment across all locations.
Energy Optimisation and EMS Design – Edible Oil Refinery:
Delivered a comprehensive energy assessment and EMS integration strategy for a large-scale rapeseed oil refinery. The site operated a biomass CHP system with an ORC turbine and thermal oil boiler. The project aimed to improve process efficiency, optimise renewable incentive revenue, resolve power quality issues, and support planned production expansion.
Aaron conducted a two-week site study, assessing equipment redundancy, modelling energy balances, and identifying operational constraints. He designed an EMS to integrate previously independent control systems, enabling improved telemetry and control. Deliverables included a technical report and a consolidated Excel tool with site data, phased recommendations, and supplier engagement outcomes. He continued to support the client post-delivery with supplier evaluation and technical input.
District Heating Network – Outline Business Case Support:
Supported the development of an Outline Business Case for a local authority-led District Heating Network, in line with CIBSE CP1 (2020) standards. The project assessed the technical and economic feasibility of delivering low-carbon heat to a public building. Aaron led the development of the strategic and economic cases, and supported the financial case through demand profiling, heat supply scenario modelling, and energy balancing. He contributed to the evaluation of counterfactual and low-carbon generation technologies, including gas-fired replacements and heat pumps, and defined key performance parameters to support capital and operational cost modelling. His input shaped funding justification and strategic decision-making, enabling the organisation to progress with a PSDS funding application.
