PD&MS acquires Synergie Environ Ltd to strengthen carbon reduction services

Last Friday Synergie Environ Ltd was acquired by Aberdeen headquartered PD&MS Group to bolster its decarbonisation capabilities and further support the energy sector’s net-zero emission ambitions.

The acquisition will leverage SEL’s specialist low-carbon engineering expertise and advisory services and help determine CO2 reduction measures for PD&MS’ clients to achieve carbon neutrality targets and support the industry’s energy transition. PD&MS will provide additional engineering resources, project management and site construction support allowing the business to target larger scale engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) campaigns as well as supporting SEL on larger turnkey opportunities across the cleantech sector.

As a result, the leading international engineering and design business plans to increase its workforce with 75 new hires across Scotland and the UK in the next 12 months.

PD&MS recently announced its has been awarded a contract from Montrose Port Authority to repurpose its 50m communications mast for the Seagreen offshore wind farm off the coast of Angus. Over the past 18 months, its renewables team has also completed a range of significant projects including mast decommissioning for Moray East offshore wind farm as well as other wind and solar front-end engineering and design work, engineering and construction scopes.

SEL will continue to be based in Glasgow and operate as part of the PD&MS Group. SEL is excited by this transaction and look forward to working with PD&MS to help realise their passion for low carbon projects and being part of the drive to decarbonise the oil and gas sector, leveraging PD&MS’s already strong position.

PD&MS was founded in 2002 and was bought by private equity firm Inflexion in 2014. It has offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Baku in Azerbaijan and a global workforce of 800 personnel. In the UK, around 500 are based onshore and 200 are offshore. The remaining 100 workers based in the Caspian region.

As well as being committed to pro-actively supporting its customers to reduce CO2 emissions on their projects, the business has employed several internal initiatives to achieve net zero for its business in line with the principles of OGUK 2035 Roadmap.
