Energy & Projects Engineer
MSc Environmental Engineering
BEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering
Ewan graduated from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow with a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. His undergraduate degree provided him with a solid grounding in core engineering principles: thermodynamics, fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, mathematics and statistics, process analysis, process safety and process control. In the final year of his degree Ewan completed a design project on the production of ibuprofen from isobutylbenzene and was also a finalist in the prestigious Telegraph STEM Awards in the design category. His passion for sustainable engineering led him to study for an inter-disciplinary master’s degree in Environmental Engineering which covered aspects of chemical, civil and mechanical engineering with a focus on engineering for the environment and sustainable engineering techniques. Core subjects included water treatment, waste management, land remediation, renewable energy, decommissioning and EIA. Additional studies included environmental microbiology and chemistry along with modules in environmental economics, legislation and policy. Along with his master’s thesis on the effect of biofouling on marine microplastics, Ewan also completed an industrial placement with a microbrewery on the Isle of Eigg where he carried out a feasibility study into a novel anaerobic digestion system for the Island.
Following university, Ewan’s interest in sustainable engineering led him to join environmental solutions giant Veolia as an engineering graduate. Ewan worked across Veolia’s energy and waste businesses on a range of projects including: developing waste management strategies at Stanlow Oil Refinery in Ellesmere Port; optimising the performance of District Heating Networks in London and improving the energy efficiency of the Royal Liverpool Hospital. He also worked on a range of smaller projects including process safety improvements at Eli Lilly in Liverpool, project managing a boiler house rebuild at LANXESS in Manchester and working with business development teams on bids for contracts within the waste and energy sectors.
Ewan has joined Synergie Environ to help deliver low carbon solutions to interested business and industries across the UK.
SKILLS & EXPERTISE
Through his university education and work experience Ewan has gained skills in a range of engineering disciplines and has practical experience across a range of industries including: Oil and Gas, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, District Heating and Waste to Energy. Ewan is a safety and client focussed, driven engineer who is experienced in project management and is passionate about creating a more sustainable future for industry.
Ewan is an associate member of the institute of chemical engineers and is currently working towards chartership.
